San José is located on a plateau in the Central Valley surrounded by mountains and several small rivers and streams. The city is situated at an average altitude of about 1170 meters above sea level. For this reason, despite its proximity to the equator, the climate is pleasant, with temperatures ranging between 18 and 22 ° C.

The city was born during the eighteenth century by the Spanish colonizers. For many years, San Jose has remained a small urban center. Urban growth accelerated at the beginning of the nineteenth, by virtue of the development of coffee plantations in the surrounding countryside.

Pre-Columbian Gold Museum

 

 

Located under the "Plaza de la Cultura" is a historical museum, archaeological and cultural heritage which is contained is a collection of gold objects produced by goldsmiths of the Pre-Columbian peoples who occupied the current Costa Rica.In addition to the exhibits in the exposition it is rebuilt the daily life of these people showing technology and the relationship with nature. The collection consists of 1,600 pre-Columbian gold pieces dating from 500-1500 AD. It is also enriched by pre-Columbian ceramic and stone objects such as vases, statues and various stone tools of the per diem and ceremonial life of the people.

 

 

  


Mercado Central

 

Founded in 1880 and declared a cultural heritage for its strong tradition and identity is located at the principle of Avenida Central, where thousands of Ticos and tourists do visit daily in a typical atmosphere.


Inside it is over 200 business selling a wide variety of products such as meat, fish, cheese, fruits and vegetables, all fresh and at a great price, but also spices, medicinal herbs and healing of all kinds, fresh flowers, and of course local crafts.


Also in the market there are many small "Sodas" where you can found the Ticos to spend his breakfasts with "Gallo Pinto" or lunch with the "Casado" or great soups.

Manuel Antonio National Park

 

 

 

 

One of the most famous reserves of Costa Rica, is located in the Pacific Ocean and it is very easy to reach. One of the places where it is easier to see sloths! The park is also very well organized, the Rangers are nice and helpful, always ready to warn if there is a sloth in a tree. Everything is very well kept, clean bathrooms with showers and there are two easy ways for a short walk to viewpoints and to see the beach between Palaya Espadilla and Playa Manuel Antonio. Both are well signposted and about a kilometer in length.
